The New "Mainstream" Media

When it comes to the influence that mainstream media has brought into society in general we can't help but think about how important of a role it has played in the creation, distribution, and consumption of media content. With that said, will there ever come a time when this mainstream media is not mainstream anymore?


Let's first start by identifying what mainstream media is. Well, it's the collection of various established news media sources and outlets that are available to the general public. These include news channels, print, radio, and all the traditional media that we are well aware of.  


However, the main question into play here is with the development of this digital age have come more comprehensive tools that allow common people to partake in conversations that at one point no one would be witness to. Behold social media. 

There are many social media tools besides the typical platforms, one of them being the ability to blog and write full paged articles about a particular topic from a distinct point of view. Tools such as these can help in more ways than one may think. If one is to look closer at the trajectory of social media and all the content on these platforms we being to realize that we are no longer just consumers of content, but we are also content creators in ourselves by all the media we post online. 

So in what ways do blogging and social media challenge the hegemony of the so-called Mainstream Media?

Remember, a new generation has been brought up with the use of the internet and social media. It makes sense why mainstream media wants to target this new group of people. This is why it is important to recognize the advantages that social media and blogging have when going up against Mainstream Media.

After all, social media is a platform for building relationships. If one is built and strengthened through constant exposure and public sentiment, one is more likely to believe it, share it, and contribute to it.
